SUNSHINE COAST WEDDING - RAIN, ROMANCE & ONE MASSIVE PARTY

Marina Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Australia

Ceremony Time: 3.00pm

Time of Year: Mid-October (rainy day)

Photo Time: Car photos 4.00pm - 4.15pm / Wedding party & portraits 4.55pm - 5.25pm / Night photos 7.20pm - 7.55pm

If there's one thing Elly and Tom's wedding at Marina Mooloolaba proved, it's that a little rain doesn't have to get in the way of an incredible wedding day. With a waterfront ceremony, Aperol spritzes, a bass-heavy soundtrack and a dance floor that was always going to be the main event, these two knew exactly what kind of celebration they wanted.

The morning started exactly how you'd want a wedding morning to feel. There was no frantic rushing around, just everyone enjoying the morning and soaking up all the excitement before the day officially began. One of my favourite details was Elly wearing her bridal robe with her veil while getting ready (umm, ICONIC!). Because if you're going to be a bride for the day, why not go all out?

With the marina as their backdrop, the ceremony had that relaxed coastal atmosphere that makes Mooloolaba weddings so special.

The forecast had been threatening rain, and we'd already seen plenty of it throughout the day. But somehow, when it mattered most, the weather played along. The rain held off for the entire ceremony! Elly and Tom were able to have their ceremony without needing to escape the weather, and we even made it through the confetti toss. Then, almost on cue, it was time to run.

We weren't rushing through everything or sacrificing photos because of the rain. We simply spread the portrait time throughout the afternoon and worked with what the weather gave us. A rainy forecast doesn't automatically mean losing the opportunity for beautiful photos. Sometimes it's just about being patient, staying flexible and having a vendor team that's happy to work around it.

From the beginning, Elly and Tom had one major priority for their wedding reception.

They wanted a massive party.

And honestly, I freakin' love that.

Rather than planning a traditional sit-down reception where everyone spends most of the evening at their tables, they chose a cocktail-style celebration at Marina Mooloolaba, with plenty of room for mingling, drinks and, most importantly, dancing. Guests were welcomed into the reception space with Aperol spritzes, which felt like the perfect way to kick off a Sunshine Coast waterfront wedding celebration.
